Advent Resources and Tips for Parents

How do we keep our focus on Jesus this Christmas? When our children confuse Santa Claus and Jesus, how do we help them see that the story of Jesus’ birth is true and changes the focus of our lives? Let this Christmas be about giving, expectations for miracles, and Christ living in us. Use these Advent activities and resources to worship and discover together what Christmas can be when Jesus is the focus and the light of our home.

TRUTHS FOR CHILDREN

PreK/K

  • Christmas is when we celebrate Jesus’ birthday.
  • God loves all people. We show His love to others when we share and give.
  • God can do amazing things that people cannot do. We call those things miracles.
  • God can use us to help Him in His work when we pray and ask Him to lead us.

Elementary

  • We celebrate Christmas - Jesus’ birthday - as the time when He came to earth to set the example for us.
  • God loves when we give cheerfully and He wants us to trust Him to provide what we need. He wants us to use our treasures for His purposes.
  • God has a good plan for our lives. He also wants us to follow His lead as He guides us in life. God wants me to appreciate my uniqueness and use it for His glory as I imitate Jesus and love like He loved.
  • A miracle is a surprise event caused by God that cannot be explained by science or for any other reason. Jesus' birth was a miracle. God still does miracles today.

What is Advent and should we celebrate it in our homes?

i want to bless others as a family during this season.

I want my family to focus more on Jesus this December.

My kids are confusing Jesus and Santa Claus. Help!

I am looking for Christmas music that helps US focus on Jesus this Christmas.

Many of these books and resources can be checked out from the Valley Children's Library at the Avon Campus.
